Denmark 2026 Happy New Post !
15 Jan., 2026, press release

One of the most exciting developments in philately, not only as a wonderful hobby but also as a discipline studying the history of postal service, was the end of letter collection through public letterboxes in Denmark. For 500 years, the Danish Royal Mail provided this service, and now Denmark has become the first country in the world to dismantle these postboxes. However, this doesn't mean the end of traditional paper letter sending and delivery services. This service is now being provided by another Danish postal operator, DAO, with its own stamps. You can now order the first Danish postage stamps for 2026 from us in the relevant section of the store, and we'll tell you a little more about this important change for Danish postal and philately...
... the development of online electronic services is gradually reducing the number of traditional paper letters while simultaneously increasing the number of parcels. We live in an era of rapidly expanding distance selling, so postal operators and courier companies are striving to profit from parcel delivery and minimize letter delivery. In most countries, traditional letter delivery generates no income for logistics companies, and losses are covered by government subsidies or other profitable businesses. Therefore, the decision by the main Danish postal operator, PostNord, to dismantle its network of traditional mailboxes came as no surprise. The international operator, PostNord, has never been known for its social activism or charitable activities; it is a company typical of the "all for profit" economic model.
The end of traditional letter acceptance through public postboxes in Denmark does not mean the end of this service! To send a letter, you must now visit a post office in person or have a courier delivered to your home or office. Since January 2026, this service has been provided in Denmark by the postal company DAO. We present to you their first definitive stamps, which you can already purchase from us!
The main trend in philately in the 21st century is the growing number of private international postal operators using their own postage stamps. We closely monitor this development and offer collectors a full selection of stamps, from both the traditional state-owned and more modern private companies.
Always at your service!
